Setki zwolenników obalonego libijskiego lidera Muammara Kadafiego zajęły w poniedziałek wieczorem miasto Bani Walid i wywiesiło tam dawną zieloną flagę – poinformowali przedstawiciele władz.
W poniedziałek cztery osoby zginęły, gdy zwolennicy Kadafiego i oddziały lojalne wobec nowych władz starły się w tym mieście, które podczas dziewięciomiesięcznej wojny domowej było bastionem sił byłego dyktatora.
Według świadka, na którego powoływał się Reuters, do starć doszło, gdy członkowie oddziałów Narodowej Rady Libijskiej (NRL) aresztowali kilku stronników nieżyjącego Kadafiego, co sprowokowało innych z tej grupy do chwycenia za broń.
Według szefa lokalnych władz z Bani Walid Mubaraka al-Fatamniego dobrze uzbrojeni i wyszkoleni lojaliści Kadafiego przejęli kontrolę nad miastem.
Dowódca oddziałów NRL Ali al-Fatamni, który śledzi sytuację z Bengazi, poinformował, że stracił kontakt z siłami, które znajdują się w mieście.
Bani Walid położone jest ok. 150 km na południowy wschód od Trypolisu. Przeciwnicy Kadafiego walczyli o to miasto cztery miesiące.
